  1. I wanted to make sure your organization was aware of the public records, historical map and neighborhood soil sampling results that USA TODAY has on its website about the former Loewenthal Metals factory site in Pilsen. A direct link to the information about this site is:

You will likely find our soil testing results — linked off the left side of this web page, of particular interest. They show numerous locations in the neighborhood with high levels of lead in the soil. And as our stories have reported, state regulators say there is no plan to do any cleanup of soil beyond the former factory’s borders. In addition, there are links to copies of government reports about this site and the soil contamination regulators have found on it.

The Loewenthal Metals site also was part of the first article of our “Ghost Factories” series:

And we recently included it in another update story:

Our full Ghost Factories series is archived online at:

I’d welcome talking with representatives from your organization about what USA TODAY found when it tested soil in your neighborhood — as well as regulators plans to only address the soil within the property boundaries of the former Loewenthal Metals site.
