Heliport Hearing 3/20/14 @1pm @City Hall/Come to Speak up Thursday!

On March 20th, 2014  Chicago Helicopter Express (CHE) will proceed to Plan Commission regarding the proposed heliport located at 2420 S. Halsted. To date, Chicago Helicopter Express has held only three community meetings for surrounding neighbors regarding the proposed heliport; however, notice of these meetings was given only days in advance, catching the community off guard and giving them little chance to challenge the claims of Chicago Helicopter Express (CHE)
Please join us to speak up against the Heliport:
Chicago Plan Commission 121 N. LaSalle Street Council Chambers—2nd Floor, City Hall Chicago, Illinois 60602 March 20, 2014 1:00 P.M
At the Plan Commission, you will have the opportunity to speak up to three minutes in opposition to the heliport and/or submit you testimony in writing. We encourage everyone to do both. Please arrive no latter than 1:00 P.M. There is a signup card as soon as you walk into the council chambers .
PERRO and Bridgeport Alliance are organizing a community forum for late April on the heliport.  We have reached out to several experts on environmental issues to examine what might be in store for us.  We asked the Plan Commission to hold off their hearing until May after our community forum but they have not responded.

Important Zoning Board of Appeals hearing this Friday could green light metal shredder in Pilsen community…

AcmeThis Friday, January 17th, the Pure Metal Recycling proposal to build a metal recycling facility in the Pilsen community will receive a hearing at the Zoning Board of Appeals at City Hall in downtown Chicago. This will be an important step towards the proposal becoming reality. After careful consideration over many months, after consultation with community members and public health experts, PERRO decided in late November to oppose the project. On Dec. 9th, PERRO delivered the following statement to Alderman Solis expressing our position on the project and the reasons we oppose it…

PERRO Oppose Pure Metal Recycling

PERRO plans to attend the hearing and speak against the project. We are looking for others from the Pilsen community to do the same. It is important members of the Pilsen community have their voice heard at Friday’s hearing.

PERRO launches Saturday morning Environmental Justice Training Program Jan. 25th…

YCAP Youth Flyer - jerry edits-page-0

PERRO is very excited about the launch of our long planned Environmental Justice (EJ) Training Program! This program invites both local youth and adults to learn about EJ principals, learn how to conduct scientific sampling in the community for various pollutants, and how to apply this knowledge to solving environmental problems in our community. The program is a joint effort of PERRO and the Field Museum’s Earthforce environmental education program.

Sessions will be held every Saturday, starting Jan. 25th, from 10 AM until 12:00 PM at Lozano Leadership Academy (corner of Blue Island Ave. and Western Ave. – exact room and building location to be announced). We expect the program to wrap up in June.

Would you like to be part of this new exciting environmental education program? Would you like to learn more about the environmental justice movement? Would you like to learn how to conduct soil, air and water tests? Would you like to investigate potential environmental problems in the community? Here is your chance.

Though the bulk of participants will be local high school students, we have limited openings for others who would also like to participate. All are encouraged to apply.
